Family Promise of South Sarasota County has been blessed to be able to move to a larger office building on the campus of Venice Presbyterian Church at 850 Cockrill Street, Venice. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on July 14 by area Chamber of Commerce members. This non-profit organization is a local affiliate of Family Promise National, and their mission is to provide housing support for children and their families in South Sarasota County. They help families get back on their feet and provide resources for families to achieve lasting independence. Living The American Dream
In his book, The Epic of America, published in 1931 during the Great Depression, James Truslow Adams introduced the concept of the American Dream: “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” In short, we don’t have to be born with a silver spoon in our mouth. We can all achieve our dreams if we just work hard and stay out of trouble.
In an even more sanguine Hollywood version of the American Dream, a nice guy in a small town marries his high school sweetheart, they raise a family—let’s say, two boys and a girl—he makes his fortune, and they live happily ever after. Meet Bill Stiver, and you can have it either way.

EARS New Location Officially Open
On Tuesday, July 6, Englewood Animal Rescue Sanctuary (EARS) opened the doors at their new location at 500 N. Indiana Avenue (site of the former Apple Pharmacy.) The new, large pet store offers a vast selection of quality pet products. The cats are already enjoying the spacious new cat room! The sanctuary is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 3pm.
