The 2020 Census Is Due Now

2020 Census Due
Englewood, it’s time to stand up and be counted! By now, you should have received your invitation to complete the 2020 census. Although Charlotte County overall has a 48% response rate, there are three tracts in West County (Englewood area) that are lacking behind. These areas are south of Rotonda West with only a 14% response rate, Grove City/Placida along the intracoastal at 18% and Englewood along SR 776 is at 29%. Granted that the census arrived when everyone’s attention has been focused on the COVID-19 crisis, it is necessary to take the time to respond on your own, whether online, over the phone or by mail, thus avoiding a meeting with a census taker. The form takes very little of your time to fill out but can yield you and the community big benefits. The information collected helps determine congressional representation, areas where federal funding is allocated, highlight the population trends and growth projections for where new schools, clinics, roads and family services are needed, and determine funding amounts for more than 100 programs such as SNAP, mental health, Head Start and Medicaid. Your private data is protected by law and your answers are used only to produce statistics. Note: There is no question about citizenship status nor can your answers be used against you by any government agency. Please do your part and ask your neighbors as well to respond to the 2020 census. Your answers help shape Englewood’s and Charlotte County’s futures.
To see what the response rate is for the Census, visit https://2020census.gov/en/response-rates.html.
