The Crews Banking Corp. family is celebrating Information Security Officer Margo Leiter, CISM, who has been with the company for 40 years. Everyone involved in the corporation’s four Florida banks that include Englewood Bank & Trust, looks to Leiter for helping maintain the security of information flowing in and out of the financial institutions.“ As manager of the company’s Information Security Program, my principal focus is to establish programs and practices that help safeguard sensitive customer information,” she said. Leiter works closely with the company’s IT department and branch personnel in developing and maintaining security systems and initiatives. Her sphere of influence includes computer and online information, as well as physical protections within the bank offices. She also writes blogs that customers can access on the banks’ websites. A resident of DeSoto County, she joined Crews Bank & Trust, then known as the First State Bank of Arcadia, in 1981 as a teller. After 16 years as assistant to the head teller, Margo switched to internal auditing before becoming Information Security Officer in 2008. Receiving her Certified Information Security Manager designation in 2011, she says, “learning how to create an information security program entailed a lot of separate areas such as vendor management, working with IT, creating policies, conducting awareness training, working incidents, working with audits and examinations, conducting risk assessments, attending audit and admin meetings, etc., while also traveling to all of the branches to do training and risk assessments with all of the employees.” One of her primary goals is to educate bank staff, customers, and the public about the current proliferation of scams and how to avoid them.  Leiter is happily married, with two children and six grandchildren ranging in age from 18 months to 15 years.
