Set aside a few minutes every Friday evening at 6:30pm and be a part of Suncoast Cheers – based on a worldwide grassroot movement to thank first responders in local communities during the COVID-19. Stand in your driveway or on your balcony and raise a glass, clap your hands, bang a pot or give a big cheer for your local heroes and also to uplift each other. Suncoast Cheers, was created by Michael Saunders, founder of Michael Saunders & Company Real Estate and all of her 24 offices flood their social media channels with well wishes, cheers and expressions of gratitude for area first responders. Englewood Michael Saunders office manager, Mary C. Smedley, wrote an open email to the Englewood community to get involved in this weekly shout-out. Responding to the call, Clintwood Acres, a deed-restricted community off Pine Street in Englewood, has embraced this idea and on Good Friday, as these photos show, expressed their gratitude and support to all the community workers working on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Smedley encourages participants to email her with their Clapping for the Community photos and videos at MarySmedley@michaelsaunders.com. She will share them under the hashtag #ENGClaps. Photo on left shows Clintwood Acres resident Shelton Crocker drumming up support with the help of Linda VanGuilder. Photo on top: Realtor Mary Smedley and her dogs, Queen Elsa (golden) and Boomer Tiberius (black,) toast area first responders.
